Matthew was born in Ventura, a small surf town on the California coast where he grew up playing music with friends and family from a young age. It was a natural transition to move down to San Diego to broaden his horizons and network with other musicians. He was quickly immersed in San Diego's thriving music scene where there is a steady flow of extremely talented and disciplined instrumentalists for hire. Eventually he was signed to various booking agencies in San Diego.
